Highest quality rust protective coating in existence. A superb, hard as a rock rust preventative coating that is suitable for all ferrous (porous) and other metals along with other substrates.
When Dom 16 is applied over the rusted surface it penetrates and kills off the rust until it reaches the surface below. The metal dehydrates allowing DOM16 to harden and nothing can penetrate it.
ENVIRONMENT: DOM16 is more environmentally friendly than other products. DOM16 is free from VOCS
NO extensive preparations are required prior to applying DOM 16. Some competitors products require extensive preparation and will result in additional high costs to ensure that they comply with EPA regulations.. DOM 16 does not have this problem.
Compared to the competition DOM 16 is about half the price to coat 400 sq feet NO painting required. Due to DOM 16 resistance to UV a top coat is not required. If a top coat is necessary please allow at least 24 hours after the DOM 16 has been applied before painting over.
Once Dom 16 has dried it will provide excellent scratch resistance, chemical resistance and fantastic anti chip properties.
DOM 16s rust and anticorrosion properties will last as long as 10 years.
Can be applied over clean or various types of rusted metals which normally involve little if any preparation. If the surface has flaking rust then a wire brush should be employed to remove this surface rust. In the event you wish to use a cleaning agent please use Dominion Sure Seal Limited's product Sure Solve. This step is not normally required. May also be used on other substrate surfaces such as wood, concrete, fiberglass and other industrial uses.
DOM 16 is NOT a rust convertor like Dominion Sure Seal Limited's product Rust Off which is a chemical rust CONVERTER Stock BRO.
DOM 16 is an anti rust COATING which eliminates rusting.
Colors and Sizes Available: DOM 16 is currently available in Pints and Quarts and gallons, larger quantities can be special ordered. It is available in black and clear. Silver grey can also be special ordered.
Application: Normally applied by brush but can also be conventionally sprayed and also by airless equipment. Application instructions can be found on the reverse of this information (sell) sheet.
Some Specifications: Recommended dry film thickness: 3 Mils Coverage with 1 gallon (US) 400 Sq Feet
WARNINGS:
Do NOT allow moisture to get into an empty container of DOM 16.
Do NOT apply in a wet area or on a wet surface.
Do NOT over stir or entrap air in the coating.
For clean up use only Dominion Sure Seal Limited's product Sure Solv or Toluene or Xylene.
User should use a NIOSH approved respirator, safety glasses and gloves.
Make sure adequate ventilation and fresh air is available when applying DOM 16.
Avoid open flames, sparks, heating elements, cigarettes, and all other possible sources of ignition.
Very similar precautions to painting should be used.
If using spray equipment always flush equipment thoroughly. Do NOT leave residue or it will harden.
Although this is NOT a 2 part material thoroughly clean equipment after using DOM 16 as if it were a
2 part material.
Any overspray etc MUST be removed within 20 minutes or it will harden. If this is not observed only
sand blasting will remove it.
If DOM 16 gets on the skin and is not removed within 20 minutes it will take 4-5 days of scrubbing
to remove it.
APPLICATION TIPS:
Application guidelines are also on the cans labels. If the rusted surface has paint on it the paint should
first be removed. If it is difficult to remove then rough up the painted surface with 100-150 grit sand
paper.
APPLYING BY BRUSH OR SPRAY: All surfaces must be totally dry any rust flaking should be wire brushed off. The surface must also be free of wax, oil, loose paint particles Brushing or Spraying apply using an easy and even stroke and employing an up and down and side by side (cross hatch) motion. 2 coats should be used to get the maximum thickness protection of 6 mils (0.006 inches) 2 coats of 3 mils
or 0.1524 millimeters. 4 mils is approximately the thickness of one sheet of writing or computer paper.
The 2nd coat is required to completely seal the first coat of DOM 16.
Dry time between coats of CLEAR DOM 16 is 2-4 hours and with BLACK DOM 16 it is 6-10 hours.
Do NOT apply too thick a coat or it will cause bubbling as it is curing.
2 thin coats at 3 mills is the perfect coating.
When applying a coat over another coat the 1st coating must NOT be wet or tacky.
A good test is to use a gloved finger on the coating and if there is no transfer of coating then it is safe for
the additional coat.
If top coating is required it is safe to paint over after 24 hours.
Please make sure that all rusted areas are adequately coated.
Like all paints and coatings, temperature and humidity are important for the curing of DOM 16. When applying, the air or surface temperature should be no lower than 35F or 2C and not above 110F or 43C. The relative humidity should be below 90% to ensure proper drying.
DOM16 has a service temperature range of continuous 314F or 157C and can handle spikes up to 700F or 371C for up to 24 hours. DOM 16 is moisture sensitive close all containers after use MUST be kept in unlined cans.
DOM16 must be stirred thoroughly before using for at least 2 minutes or completely uniform. Do NOT shake or whip the can as it may cause bubbles. Do NOT reduce DOM 16.
SPRAYING TIPS Conventional and airless instructions are the same. Equipments lines must have an efficient moisture trap. Air pressure at the gun should be 45-70lbs Use 15-20 PSI pot pressure. Do not agitate in pressure pot. A gravity feed HVLP gun with 1.4 to 1.5 tip should be used. 3 coats should be sprayed 2-3 hours apart. If spray equipment is idle for more than 15 minutes you must resume painting or flush with solvent. Lay tip of sprayer in solvent to prevent drying out.
